Coca-Cola 600
Charlotte Motor Speedway

Last weekend NASCAR took a break from points racing and held the annual Sprint Cup All Star Race at Charlotte Motor Speedway. This week teams stay in place for the Memorial Weekend race at Charlotte, the Coca-Cola 600.
Going into the weekend guys like Brad Keselowski and Denny Hamlin will be favorites, but so will past drivers who have run well here like Jimmie Johnson. So, without too much review of last weeks non points race lets take a look at the Good, Middle, and Bad.

The Good
- Jimmie Johnson- JJ has 7 wins at Charlotte, so that should say it all for his odds here. He won this race just last year, but he is not as consistent as he used to be back early in his career.
- Kasey Kahne- Kahne has 6 top 10's in his last 7 including a win. That lone finish outside the top ten was an ok finish of 14th.
- Denny Hamlin- Hamlin just won the All Star Race last Saturday, but he also has a career average finish of 13.5 (which is 5th best of current drivers). In his last 10 starts he has 8 top 10's including two runner up finishes.
The Middle
- Joey Logano- Joey Logano has the best average finish position of any current driver in his 12 starts. However, in his last 7 starts only 3 of them have resulted in a top 10.
The Bad
- Danica Patrick- Danica hasn't had a lot of opportunities here, but in her 5 starts she only has one top 20. In fact she only has one top 25. However, she has started to qualify better in here last two starts which will go a long way in better finishes.
- Paul Menard- 16 career starts at Charlotte and only 2 top 10's. We are hitting the part of the season where Menard becomes a bit more inconsistent.
- David Ragan- In Ragan's last 6 starts at CMS he has one top 25 and five finishes of 30th or higher. All of that happened after he left Roush, but I still do not see enough in MWR to help turn it around too much this week.
Track Stats
- The last time someone won a Charlotte race from the Pole not named Jimmie Johnson was 1998, Jeff Gordon. JJ has won 2 from the Pole since then (2004 and 2009)
- JJ won 4 straight from 2004 to 2005, sweeping both times. Four straight is also a track Cup record
- In that same stretch he won 5 of 6 from 2003-2005 dropping the only race to Tony Stewart
- The most cautions was 22 during the 2005 May Charlotte race, which JJ ended up winning.
- In Jimmie Johnson's 7 wins, he has won 3 from the Pole, including this race in 2014.
- Those 7 wins are the most by any driver in a career.
- Bobby Allison has the second most wins with 6 total in 43 attempts
- Of current drivers, Jeff Gordon and Ryan Newman have the most poles (9).
- David Pearson has the most career poles at Charlotte with 14.
- Jimmie Johnson has led 1,733 or 9,328 career laps he has run at Charlotte. That is enough for second most behind Bobby Allison (2,338 total).
- Richard Petty has the most top 10's in a career with 31 in 64 attempts. He is also tied with Bobby Allison for the most top 5's (23 total).
