March Madness NASCAR Style: Champion

By Richard Tix

Well the Championship was decided at Texas, which as you know was two weeks ago! Sorry, folks who didn't catch it on Twitter, Tony Stewart won the Second Annual NASCAR Behind the Wall March Bracket! He joins Brad Keselowski, the 2013 winner, as a NASCAR Behind the Wall Champion.

Unfortunately I was very busy last week and could not dedicate a quick article on Smoke, but with the off week coming I thought I would bust through one. Lets take a look back at his tournament and results.

Opening Round: Bristol

Smoke entered the tournament as a 7 seed in the 6-Time Division. Because of a slow start he went into the tourny 27th in points. He had an interesting match up to start out with as he faced last years Chase runner up Matt Kenseth.

Luckily for Stewart he picked up his first top 5 of the season (4th) at Bristol which got him the win against Kenseth (who finished 13th) and Bowyer who was the winner of the match up against Jamie McMurray. *As always, the first race at Bristol decided the first two rounds of the bracket*

Elite 8: Auto Club

After getting his first top 5 of the season Stewart followed it up with another top 5 at Fontana. I guess someone heard about my bracket and really wanted to win it in 2014! He matched up against Marcus Ambrose and dominated from start to finish to lock himself into the Final Four.

Final Four: Martinsville

And then there were four. Stewart v Rickey Stenhouse and Carl Edwards v Brian Vickers. Ricky finished 40th at Martinsville giving the easy win to Smoke and his berth into the Finals. Stewart actually had a mediocre day as he finished 17th, but its all about match up's and he took advantage on his way to the Championship.

Championship: Texas

Carl Edrwards also advanced with Tony Stewart to one final match up decided at Texas Motor Speedway. Carl came into the Championship after winning Bristol, 10th at Auto Club, and 13th at Martinsville. He put up a tough fight at Texas finishing 14th but it wasn't enough as Tony Stewart finished 10th, which was his 3rd top ten in the tournament. So Congratulations Tony Stewart as NASCAR Behind the Wall's Second Annual Bracket Champion.
